Danielle Cargo

How long have you been a member of IACAC?
5 years

What other professional organization do you belong to?
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

How did you get into higher education?
By accident…I was a student in my master’s program and the school was hiring in the admission office.

What committees have you been involved in?
Mentorship, Human Relations Committee, Conference Committee Chair, District Seminar Committee Chair

You’re currently a Recruitment and Outreach Specialist at Oakton Community College. What’ the best part of working there?
The best part for me is working with the student ambassadors, from hiring to training to supervising. I have been able to have a personal impact on these students. It brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.

As the Conference Onsite Committee co-chair, you’re in charge of making sure everything is put together and running smoothly. What’s been your favorite part of working on the conference committee? Funniest memory?
My favorite part is the networking with other professionals. You get to know some interesting facts about people. We are able to be a team, get work accomplished, but also have a little fun. My funniest memory would have to be acquiring a nickname based on my favorite breakfast item (insider)!

What is your favorite IACAC memory?
My favorite IACAC memory is being honored with the James A. Alexander Newcomer Award. I was sitting in my seat thinking, “Wait that sounds like me!” And then Laura calls my name…the rest is history.

Do you have any words of wisdom for new members?
Enjoy and get involved! So many people to meet… so many things to learn!
