Presenters: Dan Gin & Michael O’Connor
Dan Gin is a college and career counselor at Niles West High School in Skokie, IL. Prior to working at Niles West, he worked at Hoffman Estates High School as a generalist for two years before moving to Libertyville where he worked as a college and career counselor until 2004. Dan is celebrating 15 years at Niles West this year. He has presented at various conferences regarding equity and access. Dan has served on the Board of Directors for IACAC and in 2011 was named one of the “Counselors of the Year” by the Colleges that Change Lives Organization. Dan has also served on the counselor advisory boards for Lake Forest College, UIC, University of Iowa, and the University of Alabama.
Michael O’Connor is a Post-High School counselor at New Trier Township High School in Winnetka, IL. He has presented at national and state conferences regarding a wide variety of topics relating to standardized testing as well as the college search and application process. Mike worked in a college admissions as well as a private high school prior to beginning at New Trier, allowing him to gain a well-rounded perspective of college admissions. He currently is on the Counselor Advisory committee for the Common Application, where he helps in sharing the perspectives of students and counselors in completing the online application.
