Middle Management Institute 2011

Middle Management Institute 2011Do you often feel squeezed between those you supervise and those who supervise you? If so, you are a middle manager, a job that sometimes seems impossible because no one likes feeling as though they are shoved into the middle. Help is on the way.

The inaugural IACAC Middle Management Institute will take place June 9-10, 2011 at Elmhurst College. This program, modeled after the NACAC Admission Middle Management Institute, aims to educate admission professionals for the jobs they have now and those they wish to have in the future.

Middle managers in admissions wear many hats: they plan and coordinate on-campus programming, they supervise newer staff members, they oversee admission decisions and administer budgets, often while managing an admission territory of their own. They are invaluable to our offices, yet we cannot always give them the time and the training they need to further develop their skills.

Over a day and a half, participants will delve into topics like leadership, charting a career path, managing up, and the role of enrollment management. Sessions will be led by admission professionals who will not only educate, but will continue to serve as mentors for the participants long after the workshop has ended.

“Last year at conference, the middle management track was implemented to address the needs of the admission professional with 3-5 years experience,” said Anne Kremer, MMI co-chair. “We believe the Middle Management Institute will continue those discussions and give more seasoned representatives another way to increase their knowledge of their role in the office.”

The cost for this program is $150, with continental breakfast and lunch both days, and Thursday dinner included. For participants who wish to stay overnight, a reduced rate is available at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Elmhurst.

Registration for the program is open now, and continues through May 27.  More information can be found on the Middle Management Institute website.
