Greetings from the Media Communications Committee!
Since the Committee was created last May by a vote in the General Membership meeting, we have been hard at work defining its role and responsibilities within the organization. Lead by its four inaugural Committee Chairs (Julie Marlatt, University of St. Francis; Dave Shafron, Lewis University; Kevin Coy, Lincoln-Way East H.S.; and Megan O’Rourke, Butler University) the Committee has undertaken the task of improving the methods by which IACAC keeps you, its members, informed of news about IACAC and the profession.
With the goal of improving communication and increasing engagement, we are currently working on several exciting endeavors and invite you to join us over the next several months as we unveil them:
A New Quarterly Newsletter
An email will arrive in your email inbox next week notifying you when the first edition is published online. It will be filled with articles and updates with news from around the organization. We have changed the way the newsletter is formatted for improved readability and convenience.
For those with iPhones, Android phones, or the latest touch screen Blackberries, you will be able to read the newsletter on the go. A special mobile version of the newsletter for these smartphones will make reading even more convenient. Additionally, if you prefer reading on paper you will have the option to easily print newsletter articles or the entire newsletter in one easy step.
The newsletter does not have a proper name yet, but we hope you will help us fix that by submitting your ideas. When you receive your newsletter email notification, please be sure to click on the “Help Us Name the Newsletter” link and submit your best idea. You may get the chance to leave your legacy by naming the new newsletter!
A completely redesigned IACAC website is currently in the works. (C’mon, we all know it was time for a change!) If you would like to provide input on the new design, we are seeking volunteers. Please visit the volunteer page and sign up for the Media Communications Committee.
Retirement of Higher Education Station
In order to best allocate our resources for the redesign of the IACAC website, our first step was to retire HigherEducationStation.org. While there were many valuable resources on the site, much of the information was outdated. If you have a link to highereducationstation.org on your website or referenced in other documents we suggest you remove it.
A great way to keep up with IACAC updates and activities is through our Facebook and Twitter accounts. “Like” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@IACAC and @IACACconference) to get the latest news. Also be sure to check out our collection of photos and our YouTube channel for videos.
We have a busy year ahead of us and we are anxious to add some creative and savvy members to our current committee of four. If anything above piques your interest, please contact Megan O’Rourke for more information and to sign up to volunteer!
We are looking forward to a great (and busy!) year. If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
