Committee Job Description

The National College Fair Committee is responsible for the local arrangements of the Chicago NACAC Fair held in the fall of each year. This includes planning, coordinating, implement and staffing all facets of the fair, including, but not limited to, transportation, hospitality, workshops, the counseling center, publicity and volunteers. Membership on this committee is open to all IACAC members and should represent high schools, postsecondary institutions, and community groups. The committee will meet approximately five times in the late summer and early fall to coordinate the details of the fair.

Committee Mission Statement

The Chicago National College Fair Committee aspires to assist the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) in hosting a comprehensive college fair, which will provide all college-bound students and their families, from around the Midwest, access to post-secondary opportunities, including local and national colleges and universities, financial aid and scholarships, standardized testing, and other postsecondary resources in one convenient location.

2008-2009 Goals and alignment with IACAC’s strategic plan

A. Working to increase the number of attendees to our Saturday event through better promotion strategies.

B. Working with the Chicago Sun-Times, who donates the insert with the booth locations, to utilize the insert as a resource for college admission in general.  More useful articles on college admission issues for the public.  Promote NACAC and IACAC as resources in college admission.

C. Expand workshop opportunities to offer public more information since this may be the only opportunity for some families to hear about college admission opportunities.

D. Offer professional development opportunities for CPS and other area counselors who normally find it difficult to attend IACAC district seminars, conferences, and workshops.

E. Partner with ICE/Calendar Committee to coordinate promotion of college fair events.

F. Offer a more formal reception for out of the area college and university representatives and local high school guidance counselors before the event.

G. Working with the Human Relations Committee and with CPS, offer an opportunity for middle school and junior high school to attend the fair as an early outreach initiative.

H. Offer a transportation option for out of the area recruiters to travel together on a shuttle bus from the Chicago NCF to the Milwaukee NCF since they are scheduled for the same weekend.
