Mentee: Kye Hawkins
Chicago Regional Admission Officer
DePauw University

Our match worked from the very beginning! Sarah and I have similar personalities, and senses of humor, so we got along very well right from the start. I think we also both felt that we should try to really make something of our mentor/mentee relationship. It was key to take that first step to contact one another, and it got going from there!

We first began through email, but then by phone, just to check in on one another. We also met for lunch and dinner a few times. It was so nice to be able to meet in person and talk about all the things that come along with a career as a regional admission officer. Sarah offered a lot of "veteran's wisdom" and guidance.

Our relationship has been extremely beneficial - especially for me! Sarah was able to help with everything from setting up a regional office, getting around the city, general practices, and even grad schools and furthering my own education. I truly don't know what I would have done without Sarah, and CARR during my first year as a regional admission officer!

I think it was a combination, or even a trifecta if you will, of "clicking" on a personal level, a mutual wish to get to know each other better, and a fairly steady stream of communication, whether it was emails, calls, or just running into each other at fairs. We got together for lunch or dinner several times throughout the year, too, which was always fun!

The biggest benefit I received from the mentor-mentee relationship, other than Kye's friendship, of course, was that Kye was a great source of motivation for me. Her fresh enthusiasm brought back memories of when I began working in the field of college admission and helped remind me of my reasons for making that choice. I'm so glad she was my mentee!

These two individuals were paired during the fall of 2008 and exemplify what we hope every match strives for when committing themselves to this program. Therefore the Mentorship Committee has conferred upon them the award of Mentorship Match of the Year.
